Luxury Apartment Living: How to Choose a Luxury Mattress

You've landed an apartment that has granite and quartz countertops as well as custom solar window shades. Now what?

Now, it's time to dial in the luxury of your sleep. You spend a third of your time sleeping, so it's a no-brainer investment.

Keep reading to learn how to choose a mattress that will fit right in with luxury apartment living.

Luxury Mattress Materials

Unlike standard ones, luxury mattresses are made from organic, natural, and chemical-free materials. As such, they are most often hypoallergenic.

Your options include:

  • Alpaca
  • Bamboo
  • Cashmere
  • Cotton
  • Hemp
  • Silk

You can also choose an organic latex mattress. The options there are Talalay or Dunlop, which each have a different firmness. Many luxury mattress manufacturers will let you choose a blend of each.

In general, latex reduces pressure on your buttocks and torso. This makes it a supportive, breathable material to go with.

Preferred Firmness

The less you weigh, the softer the mattress you can get away with.

That said, it's good to stick with what you're used to for ultimate comfort. You can choose between soft, medium, firm, and extra firm.

One aspect of desired firmness that makes luxury mattresses unique is that you can choose a different firmness for each half of the bed. That way, you and your partner don't have to make any sacrifices to sleep well.

They also provide better edge support because the rows are hand-stitched. This means that when you sit on the side of the bed, it will keep its shape without giving way. The more luxurious the mattress, the more hand-stitched rows it has.

Mattress Style

You can choose between a traditional pocket spring, innerspring, springless, or a hybrid. Luxury mattresses also have the option of adding a pillow top to your preferred style or completely customizing the entire bed.

Regardless of what style you select, you can expect your luxury mattress to be taller than a standard one. This is because there are more plush layers for added comfort.

If you choose a mattress with springs, pay attention to the spring count. You should get at least 1,500 springs, as the mattress will be more supportive.

Keep in mind that any "luxury" mattress made out of foam isn't actually luxury. This is because regular foam, gel, and memory foam are all made out of synthetic materials.

Physical Needs

Just like you need to list your necessities when finding an apartment, you should list them for finding a luxury mattress.

In other words, how do you sleep? Are you a back, side, or belly sleeper? Depending on the answer, you'll want to choose the mattress style and firmness level to meet your needs.

This is also true if you need pressure relief and support in a mattress. If that's the case, you should choose one with spinal alignment.

For all the hot sleepers out there, find a luxury mattress that has enough airflow to cool you down throughout the night. Being too hot at night can decrease the restorative nature of sleep.
